This essay discusses alcohol and its impact on society. Alcohol is a substance which tends to dominate social events these days. Rather than being essential in every social gathering, people should think twice about having alcohol in any event.

Alcohol is a substance which tends to dominate social events these days. Rather than being essential in every social gathering, people should think twice about having alcohol in any event. There are many problems which arise due to alcohol, most of which can easily be avoided if alcohol is not given as important a role as it is given today. The most common problems resulting from alcohol use are social, health and economic problems. There are many social events and gathering where alcohol is made use of but the three main areas of social life which researchers study to find the impacts of alcohol are groups within the family, religious groups and students. It is usually within these groups that researchers can find information to support their theory of alcohol use and abuse along with the various negative effects which drinking has.

Throughout America, drinking in social events has become quite a common phenomenon. Whether people drink after work or after a game of football; whether they belong to the upper class of society or to the lower class; at least 2/3rds of the population in the United States drinks alcohol once a week if not more (Med.unc.edu). What most of these people are unaware of is that the causes of uncontrollable behaviors, driving while run and addiction in the long run all arise due to drinking. Most people ignore the negative and long term consequences which alcohol can have; they only think about the short term effects which they believe are not so harmful. People who drink alcohol as a way of coping with their daily problems tend to ignore their families. They do not give importance to their responsibilities and hence wreck their lives.

Despite the consequences and negative impacts of alcohol are made aware to the public through various modes of communication, people still do not understand the harmful effects alcohol can have.
