Essay: Lead Poisoning

Sample Essay

The fuel used vehicles also leads to lead poisoning. The risks of exposure were higher in the 20s when industrialization and mass production of cars led to the introduction of leaded gasoline.

Then any small exposure to materials with lead would lead to vomiting, convulsions, and at very high levels death. For the car industry it was possible then to have employees exposed to lead. Lead was not only available in the fuel, but also in the air through industrial emissions[1]. This however reduced, when Canada introduced unleaded gasoline in 1975, this reduced the amount of lead in air by 76% between 1973 and 1985. Though the government introduced unleaded gasoline leaded gasoline was available in the market and still was in use in vehicles. Finally in 1990 the Canadian government completely banned unleaded gasoline in vehicles [1].
