Essay: Maslow’s Self-Actualization Theory
The first theory is in reference to the concept of Self-actualization which was proposed by Maslow in his book and this theory analyzes the motivation in terms of the hierarchy of needs such as the biological and the physiological needs which encompass the basic life needs such as air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sleep etc.
The second level of needs is the safety needs which encompasses the protection, security, order, limits, and stability needs, third need is the belongingness and the love needs such as family, affection, relationships, work group, the fourth need level is defined as the esteem need such as the achievement, status, responsibility and reputation need and lastly, the self-actualization need such as the personal growth and fulfilment.
This pyramid of needs is also referred to as Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It is used primarily for the understanding of the cause that results in the effect of motivation. This theory pertains to the notion of responsibility which provides a workplace setting that encourages and enables employees to fulfil the potential of these employees.
