This essay discusses issues related to homosexuals. When homosexuals come to mind, most people tend to believe that gays and lesbians want special rights, rights which are different from heterosexuals.
When homosexuals come to mind, most people tend to believe that gays and lesbians want special rights, rights which are different from heterosexuals. This idea is however an entirely wrong one. Homosexuals instead want rights which are similar and equal to the rights which have been granted to heterosexuals.
All gays and lesbians want is to have the same rights as those which have been given to heterosexuals; not more and certainly not less. Homosexuals have started to increase in number the world over and there are around 1 million homosexuals which are couples. This figure was found through the census carried out in the year 2000. The population of gays and lesbians however is much higher than this figure as the census did not account for homosexuals who were single and those homosexual couples who did not live together (Mason).
There are no legitimate reasons as to why homosexuals should not be granted with rights similar to as those provided to heterosexuals. Our country does wrong when it deprives people of their rights due to their sexual orientation (Nava, Dawidoff). If a homosexual is a citizen of the United States of America, he/she should be provided with the same rights as those who are granted to the rest of the citizens who reside in the country.
