You often hear student’s complaining about teachers and how much they actually hate them. This is true for some not all the teachers. In addition, most of the time it is just letting off steam but in some cases there is actual conflict and the student feels that they have reached the very end of their limit and cannot go on with the teacher. This is grave and this occurs when:

  • The teacher’s attitude is prejudiced.
  • The teacher expects more then what he or she communicates to the student.
  • There is a clash of individuality between the teacher and the student.
  • Picking on one student or targeting a few students negatively.
  • Favoritism

These are a few of the issues which make the students feel despondent, here are a few things that that both the teachers and students do to resolve this clash. The relationship between student and teacher, if it is to be maximally productive, must reproduce certain feelings and pledge of each to the other. Specifically, three elements must be present in a student’s relationship to a teacher:

  1. The student must respect his or her teacher and hold him in the highest regard, for this is an essential prerequisite to accepting his advice. Regarding someone who is only giving accurate information, and not assuming the role of mentor, this condition becomes less significant. In relation to a spiritual advisor, however, the student needs to feel respect and admiration, for this creates a willingness and craving to receive the teacher’s instruction, even though this instruction may be uncomfortable and disconcerting at times.
