The very first reason for ADHD in women being difficult is the fact that this disorder is harder to diagnose in women as compared to in men. Since women are not as hyperactive as men, it is difficult to identify the symptoms of ADHD in women. This becomes harder especially if the woman is shy and does not argue and is instead very compliant.

Most women are diagnosed with having ADHD by the time they reach their late 30’s. Diagnosing ADHD at such a late stage is not very good. ADHD usually tends to be hereditary and women generally tend to find out about ADHD in themselves when they educate themselves about the traits of this disorder when their children are diagnosed. It is only then that most women realize that they have been a victim of ADHD.

Women usually have a very hectic and stressful life; having to be a responsible and caring wife and mother along with a job is not an easy task. If a woman remains undiagnosed of ADHD, for her to take on these responsibilities can be quite hard. A woman without being treated for ADHD is usually in a very risky situation. She may also be susceptible to stress and anxiety along with depression and lower levels of self esteem. She may even have sleeping problems and might resort to some sort of substance abuse as well.
