This essay discusses affects of recreational drugs. A high amount of convicted criminals in prisons are drug addicts, condemned not only for drug-related crimes but also for burglary, mugging and other forms of theft – crimes committed to finance drug habits, and so root by drugs. These crimes impede with other people’s freedom, happiness or security, and illegal drugs cost all of us a huge amount – as victims of crimes, in insurance against crimes often committed by drug addicts, and as tax payers funding the police and justice system.

There is an enormous social cost linked with drug abuse. Therefore if drugs are legalized there will be more convictions and more people will indulge in other criminal activities.
Thus it becomes clear that legalizing recreational drugs is not in favor of the whole society and legalizing it would only add to the problem as the younger generation will indulge more in these drugs and more people will suffer from emotional and mental traumas because of drug abuse. In addition people will more freely resort to criminal activities as their judgment is impaired under the influence of drugs.
