This essay discusses assisted suicide. Suicide has become a common act in society. All around the world, we hear of people committing suicide for many reasons. The major reason due to which people commit suicide is because they are under a lot of stress from their lives and are unable to cope with it.
Suicide has become a common act in society. All around the world, we hear of people committing suicide for many reasons. The major reason due to which people commit suicide is because they are under a lot of stress from their lives and are unable to cope with it. Other reasons may include being lonely and not having many friends or family, being unemployed and unable to provide for the family and a major reason for teenage suicide; not being able to cope with peer pressure.
This is only one side of suicide which people are aware of. There is another type of suicide which exists known as assisted suicide or euthanasia as it is more commonly known as. Euthanasia is a situation in which the decision to end a person’s life is made with the help of another party. This type of suicide is generally only carried out when the person is in a painful condition and the hope of him/her surviving is close to zero. Other cases when this assisted suicide is carried out is when people are aware that the person suffering will not be able to live a normal and healthy life and will always have to deal with extreme health problems. In order to prevent the person from having to go through this, the decision is taken to end their life. This is generally done when a person is on a life support system and cannot take the decision on his own.
Just as suicide has a lot of controversy involved, so does assisted suicide. There are people who support euthanasia and there are those who oppose it. People who are advocates of euthanasia state that if a person is going through severe pain which is unbearable, it is okay to end his/her life. At least the person then gets to die in dignity. They also believe that if a person is unable to end his/her life, other can surely assist him. Some supporters of euthanasia believe that it is even crueler to make a person suffer and live unbearably….
