I was told an ornately adorned altar is set up for the evening Satsangs, the picture of the three goddesses are displayed one after the other, Durga followed by Laksmi and at the end Saraswati. On the tenth day all three goddesses are prayed to together. Many holy verses from the religious books were recited and many Kirtans were sung. The Durga Saptashati or the Devi Mahatmya was performed and explained by the swami in much detail. The gathering ended with the formal floral worship and Arati. (Navaratri—Festival of the Mother)
A unique ritualistic worship of the Mother or Durga was carried out, which incorporated the recital of the Durga Saptashati. Laksharchana for Durga in the temple, with narration of the Sri Lalita Sahasranama, was also conducted. All candidates en masse were given commencement into various Mantras in line with their Deities. Some worthy contenders were initiated into the holy order of Sannyas. Introduction in the study of the alphabets was given to children. (Navaratri—Festival of the Mother)
