The article A Choice Between Public and Private Schools: What Next for School Vouchers? By Peterson (2003) is about the school voucher system and its implication for public schools. The paper starts off by pointing to the Supreme Court decision, which allowed the voucher system to be established.
Just like food stamps or housing allowances the school vouchers can be given to the parents of students with the intention of using it in form placing their children in another school, public or private, a choice is given. It is like a scholarship to be used at one’s discretion. There are privately funded school vouchers but according to the author the public funded ones are more noteworthy.

African Americans are the ones who benefit the most from this scheme. And results show that African American students show a significant improvement in their performance after changing schools.
Studies show that when compared with private schools public schools had more resources and space but the level of education was much better in private schools. Those who opted or applied for vouchers were not all the brightest, showing that if a child is not doing well then parents will opt for other school. Public schools can also gain by concentrating on those who are left behind with more money to spend with fewer students.
This article based on research shows how the voucher system can be vied positively. Choice will not lead to further segmentation or rise of religion, but will help students in their education.
