Imus is one of the most outrageous and sometimes offensive radio talk show host who until recently was aired  to  about 3.5 million listeners weekly on 61 stations from CBS’s radio broadcast, in addition the MSNBC show apparently got another 370,000 homes daily. Imus’ remarks were quite reprehensible as what he said was both sexist and racist and this time he just went too far with his comments about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team after they lost in the NCAA basketball final.  He called the members of the team as “nappy-headed hos.”

There is no doubt that the comments were quite awful, however even worse was the way others tried to make things worse by obscuring the issue. Although individuals believe that this is also part of the freedom of speech but this was quite un-called for by a man who is inclined to pass such remarks.

It was not just the man himself, but the two corporations MSNBC and CBS who did not act promptly and waited for about a week trying to feel the public sentiments to come to a decision. It took the civil rights and women’s groups protestations and denouncements which were joined by the advertisers and the NBC which ultimately led to his firing.
