Living in the United States, people have to face a great deal of diversity. People studying criminal justice in particular have to face situations which have been caused due to diversity and hence this leads to problems. In law enforcement, stereotyping is one of the major issues which are being dealt with.
Many police officers have been accused of arresting someone or accusing them of having committed a criminal act based on the religious beliefs which he may have. This situation has been found in society for a long time however it is only recently that it has become worse then before. Police officers are people who need to be enforcing the law; not breaking it. Even though stereotyping is not against the law of the country, officers take oaths in which they promise to protect every individual regardless of his/her religion or race. No form of stereotyping should take place. Just because someone belongs to a particular race or religion does not give us the right to stereotype against them.
