The animal became extinct in wild in 1972 and is believed to inhabit flat and slightly hilly gravel plains with low valleys and dunes on the edge of deserts with diverse foliage of trees, bushes, small plants and grassland. The Arabian Oryx eats herbs, grass, seeds fruit and fresh tree leaves in addition tubers and roots are also part of its diet. It can survive for several weeks without drinking water. The Arabian Oryx actually dig low impressions in ground under bushes and trees for resting.
The Arabian Oryx live in herds and move about following the seldom occurring rains that way it is able to consume fresh plant growths that come out after rainfall. Usually a herd is composed of 8 to 20 animals; however some herds are quite large with almost hundred animals. The herds contain all ages and both sexes in them. The herds are quite stable as there is not much infighting and there is a large degree of compatibility and there is not much aggressive behavior between the herd members. Animals tend to share the shady spaces which are scattered; they spend over 8 daylight hours in the summer heat.
