A survey conducted by the UNDP- United Nations Developmental Program, Tanzania ranked 162 out of 177 countries who participated in the survey (UNDP human development index). Out of the ranking, 1 was considered to be the most developed. People living in Tanzania have a tough life; half of the population which equals to 36.6 million come under the category of being poor and 1/3rd are categorized as living under miserable poverty (Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper). The life expectancy of the people of Tanzania is not that high as compared to other countries; on average people live up 43.5 years. The country has a fertility rate of every woman having 5.1 children. The prevalence of HIV in the country is 8.8% with a population growth of 1.95% (UNDP). Half of the country’s gross domestic product is met with the help of agriculture. Agriculture also accounts for 80% of the exports made by the country and 80% of the labor force is employed in this industry (CIA). On a cultural level, Tanzania consists of 130 various tribes and each of these tribes speaks their own language. The official language of Tanzania however is considered to be English and Kiswahili however it is English which is the commonly used language in administration, commerce and education sectors (CIA).
