Informal learning on the other hand is quite different from formal learning. An example of informal learning is incidental learning. When studying is carried out through an incidental learning technique, the location where the learning takes place is somewhere other than the classroom.

Other venues may include the workplace and whichever the location, the forms are not as structured as those in formal learning. Students are able to control their own progress and it is their decision as to how much they are willing to learn. Informal learning is usually the type which a person undertakes as per his/her own wish.
