This essay discusses literary criticism by Marxist.  There are many literary critics who have tried to develop a further elaborate the ideas which have been expressed by Karl Marx.

There are many literary critics who have tried to develop a further elaborate the ideas which have been expressed by Karl Marx. In order to do this however it is important that a distinction be made between the political and socio-economic agenda proposed by Marx and the theory which originated many years later. Literary criticism on Marxist’s work begins from the philosophical assumption that conscious existence is what causes everything to occur; our lives are not determined by our consciousness but by the consciousness of our lives (Marx). Critics make use of this claim made by Marx in order to challenge the idea of human nature which is innate and predetermined and to reexamine the nature of literary and creative authority.

Power is a phenomenon which exists beyond the control and bounds of humanity. Instead of indulging into a world which consists of universal forms and instead of bringing forth their subjective interior, artists base themselves and their work on the amount of power relations which they are involved in.
