This essay discusses euthanasia in the Australian Continent. The reason behind writing this report is to try and analyze the Australian law which exists in regard to aided suicide, more commonly known as euthanasia.
The reason behind writing this report is to try and analyze the Australian law which exists in regard to aided suicide, more commonly known as euthanasia. This report will also make suggestions for reforms to take place and will be based upon the positive and negative aspects of the law.
Euthanasia and assisted suicide are two topics which people are constantly debating. People do not all have the same views regarding it; some may be for the topic whereas may be against it. Most of the countries where euthanasia was legalized were not accepted by the people and hence there are only 2 countries which allow euthanasia and assisted suicide and it is considered legal there. These two countries are Belgium and The Netherlands.
In Switzerland, Euthanasia is certainly considered to be illegal however if a physician carried out assisted suicide, he/she is not punished. If the doctor however caused the person to die due to personal reasons, there are likely to be consequences.
Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide is legal in the United States. However it is only the states of Oregon and Washington which have termed euthanasia as being legal (Marker and Hamilton).
