Due to emphysema and a valvular heart disease, he has become incapacitated and dependant on others for his needs (Byock). It has been considered that for patients like Warren Hauser who are likely to die due to their illness, euthanasia for them should be a legal option as ending their lives would certainly be a better option than having to live.
Euthanasia is a Greek word meaning a happy or an easy death. It refers to actions being taken deliberately by the physician in order to stop the patients suffering and his/her pain. This concept has been broadened and includes actions relating to incurable diseases particularly those which cause the patient a great amount of pain and if the patient is terminally ill due to the disease (“Euthanasia”). Euthanasia is considered as killing someone intentionally or taking away a person’s life in order to benefit from their death. If the death is not something which was intended, it would not be considered euthanasia.
