This is an essay on different forms of humanities. Literature, Languages, and Linguistics explore how we communicate with each other, and how our ideas and thoughts on the human experience are spoken and interpreted.
a) Philosophy: Major ideas, figures, and movements in philosophy that have shaped Western thought and heritage from the early stages of Greek thought to the present, including the broad historical and cultural context in which these ideas emerged. Philosophical treatises do not become works of art even when they are articulated in the colorful and intensely symbolical language of poetry, as was often the case in ancient times, in the philosophy of the Renaissance and the New Age. Take Plato, for example. He had a colorful world-view; it’s very form evokes admiration. He is aesthetic all the way through. His philosophy has had an impact on society which is tremendous and has changed the political philosophy of the society. As Rorty says: “ The only point on which I would insist is that the philosopher’s moral concern should be with continuing the conversation of the West, rather than with insisting upon a place for the traditional problems of modern philosophy within that conversation.” (394)
b) Literature: Literature, Languages, and Linguistics explore how we communicate with each other, and how our ideas and thoughts on the human experience are spoken and interpreted. Drama is one form of Literature, its content includes, but is not limited to, gratitude of the different genres of drama tragedy, comedy, farce, melodrama, musical— and the elements of playwriting; use of oral communication skills such as appropriate voice levels, gestures, posture, and language; understanding of the importance of drama as a reflection of society; and recognition of drama as a self-rewarding activity that entail the identification of the unique worth of the individual, the motivation behind human behavior; and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships.
