This theory’s main input is it’s rethinking of gender as something people do in their social interactions. As such, gender is basically about social relations and associations, it is rooted in every part of everyday interactions that one’s actions in doing gender at once creates, imitate, carry on and legalizes the social meanings given to gender. Society is structured according to sex tagging of male/female division; people need to be answerable for every action they perform to be suitable to one’s sex. In this sense, gender is very basic in all phases of social relationships. By doing gender, it has the effect of supporting the idea of “essential difference between females and males“.
Gender as Social Structure
According to this theory we need to think of gender as a social structure, and by doing so, we can betteranalyze the ways in which gender is rooted in individual, collective and social structures of our society.To think of gender as a structure places gender at thesame level of broad social importance as the economy andthe society. This idea is formed in society and applied generally. The consequences are felt at three levels:
