This essay discusses the novel Great Expectations written by Charles Dickens. It is a story of a boy named Pip who struggles for most part of his life to be a true gentleman. What Charles Dickens focuses on in the great novel is that the main character Pip continuously rejects and feels unhappy about what he has and looms on things that he does not possess. He lives on the English marshes with his brother-in-law and sister.

What Charles Dickens focuses on in the great novel is that the main character Pip continuously rejects and feels unhappy about what he has and looms on things that he does not possess. He lives on the English marshes with his brother-in-law and sister. His sister is a mean character who admonishes Pip quite often while his brother-in-law is a very good man who supports Pip and is his pretty much best friend.

The book is very much about the fact that we always want things in life that we do not have and feel unhappy about what we have. For instance, in Great Expectations Charles Dickens very skillfully narrates that Pip falls for Estella, an adopted child by Miss Havisham whom Pip visits very often and is the richest lady in the town. Estella is quite haughty in nature but Pip really has a big crush on her. She refuses to talk to Pip and avoids him but Pip always dream of marrying her which is quite a far distant memory considering the social status of the two.
