This essay discusses hypochondriasis. Hypochondriasis is a problem which exists amongst many individuals. It is also known as hypochondria. This is a mental condition/disorder which can be called a health phobia to an extent. This is a disorder in which a person feels that he/she suffers from some type of ailment be it imagined or real.

Hypochondriasis is a problem which exists amongst many individuals. It is also known as hypochondria. This is a mental condition/disorder which can be called a health phobia to an extent. This is a disorder in which a person feels that he/she suffers from some type of ailment be it imagined or real. If this problem exists in an individual, it suggests that the individual is suffering from a long lasting illness. A hypochondriac is a type of person who makes a small health problem into a major one despite it not being so bad. They tend to make the problem worse than it actually is in reality. This problem can be considered as an irrational fear to some extent. People suffering from this problem are hard to deal with. Their fear cannot be taken away as they tend not to listen to what anyone has to say; not even doctors.

There are a many symptoms which indicate that a person is suffering from the disease of hypochondria. For a person to be considered as having this problem, he/she must at least be worried for 6 months about his/her physical or mental well being. The symptoms, if lasting for 6 months continuously usually refer to a person having this form of problem. The main indicator for people suffering from hypochondriasis is the fact that they spend a lot of time worrying about being affected by a disease to which they probably aren’t even prone. These people also tend to be pre-occupied with the symptoms of diseases which they feel they are likely to develop.

Most hypochondriacs do not have good relations with their physicians. Hypochondriacs generally do not agree with any advice or suggestion with their doctors gives them.
