Britain created Iraq after World War I to acquire its oil,
Oil has been the reason that has attracted west’s particularly America’s attention to Iraq. That is the opinion of 8 people out of 10 interviewed. 5 said they initially believed that there were weapons of mass destruction and there was some link between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein. But following the invasion and particularly after seeing Michael Moor’s documentary greed for oil was the key reason that Iraq was invaded. 3 one of whom is a Vietnam veteran were aware that oil was the main reason why Iraq was invaded. The two who still believe that it was to protect America are staunch supporters of bush who think this strike was necessary for America’s survival.
Again, a majority of people were against Iraq’s invasion, their view was that it was wrong to attack and invade a sovereign nation that was in no position to attack America, and which was crippled by United Nations sanctions. Most of the respondents were worried about the number of civilian casualties, and also the rising death toll of the American soldiers, and increasing anarchy. Again the two Bush supporters thought that it was United States’ duty to bring peace in the region by creating a democratic setup, also they thought that American presence in Middle East was necessary to counter threat from rising Islamic Militancy.
