The protestant religion reached its zenith in the theology, political theories, and ecclesiastic reflection of John Calvin. Calvin was the one who formed model and thought that would control Western culture right through the modern period. The Presbyterian and Reformed churches of today know their origin to Calvin’s organization primarily. As they hold on faithfully to his teaching they can rightly claim to be close to the New Testament pattern.
Although Calvin was initially a lawyer, however he was particularly impressed by the philosophy of Zwingli, he was impressed with the ideas of Northern Renaissance and humanism. He dedicated his life to reform the church in the ways he thought right. He was very lucky when got a chance to carry out his reforms when the people of Geneva revolted against their rulers in the 1520’s.
The citizens of Geneva invited Calvin to restructure and reform the church. Calvin’s reforms were not superficial, in fact he truly changed the face of the protestant church as he had the will and the strength to challenge the issues and controversies which others before him were not willing to face or reform.
