This term paper discusses the map of London 1690. The Map of London is more of a celebration and joining of the Dutch and English royal houses and pictures London as the center of  that celebration as in the Map London is shown as a thriving city with development on either side of River Thames. There are several other things in addition to the map itself that draw attention to this picture.

First the map itself is of a city with a river running through its center. The metropolis is shown to be developed with well-structured blocks and roads suggesting development. However, this area is quite small against the green background of the countryside surrounding the city. Two areas on both sides of the river are shown that on the upper side is the castle of the King and Queen. While on the lower side is a list of places.

On the bottom right side of the map are the photos of the King and the Queen; their pictures are within orange garlands, which encircle them festively. On the upper left corner is the royal court of Arms. The presence of angels at the top and below shows the blessing of the church to this union. As the mood depicts a joyous atmosphere which was intended, along with a flourishing port city.

This again is reemphasized by the picture of London from one shore showing a busy river with numerous ships sailing in it, showing the prosperity, with tall buildings in the background and more prominently in the front. The bridge over the river is also very crowded, perhaps in view of the wedding of the King and the Queen.

This Map in my opinion is more a symbol of the success of this marriage especially for the Dutch people who needed the reassurance that in fact this was a very wise decision.
