Fast food industries continue to grow rapidly over the years, and America’s consumption of their food has not fallen behind. It seems today all children want is fast food, whether it is from McDonalds or any other fast food chain. Due to the fact that McDonalds markets toward children, these children grow into adults who more often than not still want McDonalds. In the movie Super Size Me, Morgan Spurlock, in response to a lawsuit filed against McDonalds, goes on a 30 day diet of solely McDonald’s products. Spurlock does this in order to prove that eating McDonalds is not only detrimental to one’s health, but also to one’s decision making. Furthermore, in an excerpt from the book Fast Food Nation, author Eric Schlosser argues that the marketing techniques of McDonalds are creating a “homogenized international culture,” one where society’s choices are impeded buy large corporations, especially fast food industries, dubbing this culture or society a “McWorld.” Both authors argue that because of these Fast Food Industries, America is no longer subject to their own personal choice or decision making, not only when it comes to fast food, but to lifestyle choices as well.
Fast food industries, especially McDonalds, market most of their product toward children, why, because it works. In the movie Super Size Me, Spurlock is trying to prove a case where a judge ruled against two girls who sued McDonalds for being obese. In order for the judge to establish this ruling, it must be shown that a diet consisting solely of McDonalds is detrimental to one’s health.
