It includes expressions, actions, and unresponsiveness. Abusers persistently rebuff, disparage, control, criticize and take no notice of the victims. This form of abuse may happen with or without physical abuse, but there is frequently an overlap. Examples of emotional child abuse are vocal abuse; unnecessary demands on a child’s functioning; punishing a child for constructive, normal behavior discouraging infant affection; disciplining a child for indicating signs of positive self-respect; and punishing a child for using communications skills needed for satisfactory performance in school and peer groups. Additionally, regularly exposing children to aggression and reluctance or incapability to provide love or encouragement for the child may also occur.
