This is an article critique on The Problem Between Body and Mind. Their research has tried to answer the question of consciousness, by explaining it through the neuroscience, trying to show that in fact human awareness and behavior is nothing but the response of some neurons in the brain. Qualia, as described in Consciousness and Neuroscience, is the “blueness of blue, [or] the painfulness of pain”. The extent to which firing neurons may adequately express highly qualitative experiences may for the moment remain mostly unanswered likewise the cerebral processes which make possible the subjective processes of experience remains to be addressed. Crick and Koch note the inability to “share” one’s subjective experiences. That it proves “inherently impossible to communicate the exact nature of what we are conscious of”

However, philosophers have discussed consciousness in the past from the ancient times to the more recent past.  Descartes saw consciousness from a very different angle, for Descartes cerebral activity is any conscious condition of the mind. For instance, seeing a yellow banana, counting to three, feeling sick, believing that God exists, would all be mental states or actions. The mind is the thing that is the owner of these states. The person is his or her mind. In other words, the mind is the soul.
