This research paper discusses different theories on religion. Social learning theory was useful in explaining personal religious and church involvement and as during youth the change in religious denomination and inactive in church explains that through religious modeling and learning the change occurs.

What do their findings suggest about the theories they presented? (you can use the interview at the end for this as well).

According to this finding the cultural broadening theory is not very relevant as it does not explain the behavior of the middle class youth in the context that the researchers are interested to know. As overall religious culture of the family and religious denomination, church youth experience and later involvement cannot be justified or explained by this theory. On the other hand social learning theory and Family Life cycle theories are to some extent are relevant.

Social learning theory was useful in explaining personal religious and church involvement and as during youth the change in religious denomination and inactive in church explains that through religious modeling and learning the change occurs.

Family learning theory is only partially applicable not during the early stage as parents involvement did not have a significant impact, but during adulthood when personal religious involvement and church involvement increased because of the children they had as adults.

This suggests that all the theories cannot justify a certain trend or occurrence in society.  Some of the phenomena can be explained wholly or partially through a social theory. As in the case of this research paper, social learning theory was most successful in explaining the trend, however it was not wholly successful as it only partially explained the trend. While the Family Lifecycle theory, to a very small degree made a difference and cultural broadening theory failed to explain the trends. Therefore although initially all three theories were used to explain the research problem only social Learning theory was able to explain the trend.
