Abstract: anthropology began in the late 1970’s and ever since has had popularity amongst people. There exist 3 schools of thought, all described below.

This essay talks about how anthropology developed in the United States of America during the period of 1870-1900. Anthropology is the eye witness’s account of a situation.

These eye witnesses may have travelled to many lands and visited a variety of societies and told people about their culture. This information was then collected and analyzed in order to be studied. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, many people became interested in the field of anthropology and began practicing it. It was a field which was very closely linked to that of colonial expansion and commerce and trade (Patterson).

There exist three schools of thought as far as anthropology is concerned. These pertain to before and after the First World War. The very first beliefs are known as cultural determinism which was started by Franz Boas along with his students. This focused on the relationship between linguistics, ethnology, archaeology and folklore as being a discipline in terms of academia (Patterson). The second process of thinking was that of physical anthropology. This thinking was proposed by Ales Hrdlicka who belonged to the National Museum.
