This term paper discusses social stratification. The core of sociology is the study of society – inequality, socially structured inequality. Inequality emerges from the power and control of assets by certain individuals, groups, and social classes in culture. Social stratification in historical societies is never – has never been matching with the system of objective functional differentiation or social contribution.

On one hand, inequalities based on individual qualities charisma, economic or social skills, do not comprise stratification, since they are not defined by membership in a meticulous category So, if in a hunting band the best hunter or the healer/shaman is held in high regard and has favored access to some resources, this isn’t social stratification.
