Life of Augustine
Augustine was a philosopher in the 4th century whose revolutionary ideas introduced Christian principles with Neoplatonism. He was not only a catholic theologian but he also contributed to the western philosophy. St. Augustine was born in 354 C.E. in Thagaste—part of Algeria, he was educated in Thagaste, Madauros, and Carthage and had a long relationship with the mother of his son. He was a teacher and because he was not satisfied with the students in Thagaste and Carthage he traveled to Rome trying to find better scholars. However he was further disappointed as the quality of students did not improve but he became a professor of rhetoric in Milan. In 386 he suddenly left his position as a professor and renounced his ambition, he was baptized by the Bishop off Milan. After he spent four months at Cassiciacum then left for his home town in North Africa. He lost his mother and his son and immersed himself in the matters of the church and different controversies. He relied on the church for emotional support. He was ordained into priesthood in 391 and then was appointed a Bishop he served in that position for 35 years.
