The program works to achieve this goal by educating child care providers, parents and policy makers on risk decline practices for SIDS and supporting States in their efforts to comprise safe sleep practices in their childcare licensing regulations. This compilation of 10 standards on SIDS from the 2nd Edition of Caring for Our Children supports the Healthy Child Care America’s Back to Sleep Campaign aim to educate childcare providers, parents and policy makers on jeopardy reduction practices for the avoidance of SIDS.
Several studies have examined various environmental sway or child-rearing practices that may help guard an infant from SIDS. It is imperative to point out, however, that these factors in and of themselves, are not consistent in predicting how, when, why, or if SIDS will happen.
For instance, while researchers conclude that breastfeeding is advantageous, there is no clear-cut link between breastfeeding and reduced risk of SIDS. Other studies have established a lower rate of SIDS among infants who used pacifiers contrast with infants who did not use pacifiers. Although results of these studies are likely to be consistent, there is still no evidence that pacifier use prevents SIDS.
