This term paper is based on discussion on Tupac Amur Shakur. Tupac Shakur has not only influenced music, but he also influenced the lives of many people, young and old, across the world.

Tupac Amaru Shakur, grew up to be one of the most significant musicians in Hip-Hop and American history. He predicted his own tragic demise in many of his works, and although he could not change how he was educated and his cultural influences, he did many things to help better himself.

Tupac Shakur has not only influenced music, but he also influenced the lives of many people, young and old, across the world. His own style influenced many Hip-Hop artists, as well as the artists of numerous other genres. From his rebellious lyrics in songs such as “Hail Mary” in which he states that he was made “a product made to crumble” to the motivating words in the poem “The Rose That Grew From Concrete” in which he talks about being born from nothing and making something of himself, every poem and every song from Shakur contained a message, whether it be keeping one’s head up in the face of hardship, or not to let one’s surroundings decide his/her future.

Although Tupac Shakur emerge to be a violent epitome of the “Thug Life” mentality, his lyrics often spoke a message to the adolescent population of America, particularly those living in urban areas. Some may say the violent lyrics in many of his songs sent a negative message to the easily molded minds of America’s youth, but in reality these lyrics portrayed the exact opposite idea. Hence, while Tupac may have made some violent statements in his music, the majority of the influences that he represent were those of rising in the face of adversity.

Tupac Shakur’s song “Keep Ya Head Up” contains such lyrics as

I wonder why we take from our women Why we rape our women Do we hate our women? I think it’s time we care for our women Time to heal our women.”

Despite the lyrics encouraging men to respect women, Shakur was recently arrested for sexually abusing a woman in a midtown hotel. This arrest came two weeks after Shakur was arrested for supposedly shooting two off duty police officers after a traffic dispute in Atlanta. Proponents of rap feel that all rappers are protected under the first amendment. They also feel that rap is an artistic art form, reflecting ghetto life and that criticism of rap is another form of discrimination.
