What is the Wife of Bath like?
The Wife is not good-looking, but strong and lively. She wears bright clothes and her intricate head-dress is pretentious rather than stylish: her hat is very wide. As in the present situation, most pilgrims are men. She hopes that one of them might be the latest husband for whom she is searching. Her social skills are quite polished, especially her familiarity of “remedies of love”, an “art” which she understands.
