This is a term paper on women of Torah. Miriam knew Moses very well. This created a problem for her. She was not able to see her little brother Moses as the anointed prophet of God.

Miriam was the big sister of Moses. It was Miriam who was watching the basket of baby Moses as it floated on the river[i] . It was her that recommended to the daughter of Pharaoh the idea of finding a woman from the Israelites to take care of Moses. Miriam’s rapid thinking meant Moses was brought up by his own mother. If there was something to know about Moses, Miriam knew it.

She was not called to minister on a large scale like Moses was; yet her role was significant and acknowledged by the scriptures.

Miriam knew Moses very well. This created a problem for her. She was not able to see her little brother Moses as the anointed prophet of God. Miriam is the prophet of water. Approximately from the first instant she’s next to the water, watching her brother’s cradle to safety along the Nile. She knew the power of water to bring life and death. So it was appropriate that in her Song of the Sea she sings of God’s use of the waterpower. [iii], Moses himself did not know so much about water, but brought the people to a place of bitter waters, Marah, which precipitated the first stirrings of revolt.
