This essay discusses abortion and its history. In the 1820’s, abortion laws were introduced in America for the first time. These laws forbid a woman to abort her baby after the fourth month of her pregnancy.  By the 1990’s with the help of the AMA- American Medical Association and many physicians, abortion became outlawed in the whole of the United States.

Despite being banned, illegal abortions still continued to take place though they were less frequent. It was during the Comstock Law that abortions reduced greatly as information relating to birth control was banned as well.  There were certain people who were very much against abortion, especially feminists. Feminists are those people who fight for the rights of women and demand equality between men and women.

Susan B. Anthony- a feminist wrote negatively about abortion, stating that the procedure was extremely dangerous for the woman. The process did not only put her life in danger but her health as well.  Feminists believed that in order to end abortion, equality for women was required. Feminists also believed that prevention of getting pregnant was more important rather than punishing women for it; abortion was seen as a type of punishment which women had to go through. They believed that it was due to certain circumstances, the laws of society and especially men who drove women..
