This essay discusses issues related to parenting by homosexuals. On a daily basis, Roger Croteau and his partner Steve Lofton live in fear of having their foster son Bert being taken away from them and being placed with another family and for them to take care of him.
On a daily basis, Roger Croteau and his partner Steve Lofton live in fear of having their foster son Bert being taken away from them and being placed with another family and for them to take care of him. Roger and Steve would love to adopt Bert who is 10 years old however due to them living in the state of Florida and the state having a law which bans homosexuals from adoption children, they cannot. Steve and Roger have been taking care of Bert since he was an infant. Along with him, they have been raising four more children as well. If the authorities take away Bert from the two men, the boy will lose the only family he has ever known.
It has been since June of 1977 that homosexuals in Florida have been banned from adopting children due to moral values being broken and due to the danger which could be caused to the child/children (Suit). This view could have been a result of the press saying that gays molested and corrupted children. Many people even today believe this to a great extent. Many other states too have banned homosexuals from adopting children on similar basis. States like Mississippi and Florida have made this into a proper law.
Most people are against the idea of gays and lesbians. People who are very family oriented and advocate family values are the ones who are generally against homosexuals. Homophobia is all around us (Benkov). It is extremely persuasive and…
