Words 1,760

This is a term paper on feminist literature. According to Brady the conventional role of women is described in the role of a wife and what she has to do. She gives the details of all that a wife has to do to make a man happy.

The role of women as described by Jamaica Kincaid in Girl and Judy Brady in Why I Want a Wife are two pieces of feminist literature that describe in detail what a woman is expected to do being a woman. Both the essays are satirical to the point of being scathing at the society which is run and organized predominantly by males who have since time unknown been dominating women and arranging their lives in such a way so that they can have the greatest advantage.

According to Brady the conventional role of women is described in the role of a wife and what she has to do. She gives the details of all that a wife has to do to make a man happy. From looking after all the needs of the children to housekeeping, to taking care of all the things of her husband, and preparing food for him to paying attention to all the details about his likes and dislikes, entertaining his friends, and fulfilling his sexual needs are also some of the duties, if that is not enough then it is the woman’s duty to allow her husband to have affairs and even leave her for another woman if he feels like it, leaving her with the children.

Kincaid on the other hand talks about what a girl is supposed to do, and how she is supposed to perform various tasks that are the most important part of her life like washing clothes or cooking food or even how to great people or even how to eat.
