This essay discusses human psychology. Augustine was a well known philosopher as well as a saint. Some of the views and beliefs held by him are related to humanistic psychology. My personal profession and line of work focuses on psychotherapy which comes under the category of Humanistic-Experiential.
Augustine was a well known philosopher as well as a saint. Some of the views and beliefs held by him are related to humanistic psychology. My personal profession and line of work focuses on psychotherapy which comes under the category of Humanistic-Experiential. These therapies are such that they emphasize the need for personal growth and for people to have a self direction towards which they can work (Butcher et al). the humanistic approach in psychology is one which gives importance to the values which are held by people, their interests and the most important of all, the belief in human potential (Schultz). The thoughts and beliefs held by Augustine related to knowledge and to try and understand the problems of behavior and thinking which many humans face. According to Augustine, this branch of psychology is such that it helps in finding out more about the complication of love and happiness.
Theories which constitute the humanistic branch of psychology are very optimistic, growth oriented and generally quite positive. One component of humanistic psychology is phenomenology. Phenomenology states that a person’s reality is only that which the person experiences in a subjective manner (Schultz).
